Company Brief
Chartered Asset Management Pte Ltd (CAM) was established in 1994 as a boutique fund management firm under Regulation 41(1)(e) of the Securities Industry Regulations of Singapore. As of 13 March 2003, CAM obtained its Capital Markets Services Licence for boutique fund management activities under the Securities and Futures Act 2001. This licence is granted by the Monetary Authority of Singapore only to fund management firms with a three-year track record and minimum funds under management of S$100m. With this licence, CAM can provide fund management to accredited investors as defined in the Securities and Futures Act (Cap 289). An accredited investor is defined in the Act to include individuals with net personal assets of at least S$2 million and corporations with net assets of at least S$10 million.
CAM is headquartered in Singapore and has two wholly owned subsidiaries, Chartered Asset Management (HK) Pte Ltd (CAM HK) and Chartered Asset Management Investment (Mauritius) Pte Ltd (CAMI Mauritius). CAM HK was incorporated in Hong Kong initially to provide research and investment advisory services to CAM but the company is now dormant. CAMI Mauritius is incorporated in Mauritius as an investment holding company.
CAM's objective is to provide quality equity-investment services to a select clientele. CAM started out as a Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia specialist but, with effect from the first quarter 2000, has expanded its investment scope and now covers nine countries in the Far East. These include China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
Executive Directors, Mr. Colin Lee and Ms. Low Siew Kheng, own 100% of CAM.
CAM is incorporated in Singapore with limited liability and has a paid-up capital of S$1m. CAM's external auditor is RSM Chio Lim.
CAM's advantages include the commitment of its investment team who are also the executive management, as well as its ability to provide independent advisory services to its clients, avoiding the potential conflict of interests associated with bank-backed and brokerage-related asset management organisations.
